Stock was said to have topped off and didn't move that much today, but today it went up a tiny bit.

After $10 of commisions to Questtrade im left with $14.80, definately better than a loss which I have still not had since all my trades this year.

LGF shot up to over 3.00 % today to the 11.70 reach even.

If I hadn't woke up for the trading day I would of held this position and made some nice profit like I first expected this trade would.

Lions Gate Films

Bought Lions Gate films (LGF) last friday at 11.14 before its earning report was to be released.

It had lots of good news with Saw III with great number of ticket sales, and annoucement that the movie will also be out on Blu-ray.

But to my dismay it went down in after hours from 11.19 to 11.00 and that made me want to pull out.

So today morning I put in a sell order at 11.19 and it got filled.. Not sure how that works.

Sold Selectica

Didn't stick to my word like I posted last night. Decided to put in a limit order at 1.81 instead of 1.80 :-)

Order went through and a total profit of $70, but only $50 after commisions.

So thats 5 trades in a row for profit

Happy I sold because it a high of 1.83 but now went back down to 1.70, would of ended my streak.

Other Two Holdings

Still have been holding Broadcom and Nortel for a very long time. Close to a year.

Anyways those were my bad days, where I'd hold stocks for a long time. I'm still holding onto it as I'm waiting for that account to be transferred to QuestTrade. Grhhh hope it goes through fast.

I had bought Broadcom for $45.40 Last March
Today its 34.07

Nortel I bought a while back for 3.46 if memory serves me correctly.
Now after the 10:1 split, it's 29.20, so equivalent to 2.92

Nortel has seen lows of 19.00 (equivalent to 1.90) , which was a 45% loss (CRAZY?!) but now its gone to only a 15% loss.

Will be getting out of these positions quickly.

Selectica, Inc.

Bought 1000 shares of Selectica, Inc. at $1.74

In after hours went up to $1.80

1000 shares costs a commision to questrade of $10.00 (1 cent per share) so I had to cover $20 for a profit.

Put in a sell at $1.84 but it fell short of that.

Tommorw morning will wake up early and put in a sell at $1.80 to make a profit or $1.76 to break even.

Another trade for a profit.

This time I bought WSPI (Website Pros Inc.)

Bought at 9.83 (MARKET ordered it)

Reason I market ordered it is because I have placing orders at 1-5 cents below. Mainly lately its been just 1 cent below current price. Then the stock starts moving and I feel like I've missed it and then the regrets start. First i tried to get it at 9.73 when it was 9.74, then it wet up to 9.80 so I placed a market order and it filled it in at 9.83 right away.

Being in the online sector you can pick up general sense of certain companies and how they're doing. Website Pros has some great identities like 1shoppingcart.com etc.

Well after being up already 2% in the day, once I bought it I placed a limit sell order at 10.40. Never be to greedy. The stock shot up much above that all ways to 10.90

Thats 4 straight stock trades I've done for profit using some simple steps mostly picked up Jim Cramer.

- First never hold a position for more than a week
- Do a least one hour research. Now this might seem hard for many people at first. Note that I'm in the middle of midterms right now and still have had enough time to sneak in this research. I researched at around 11:45 and bought close to the end of the bell.

This is one of the great things about not holding a stock for a long period of time, it doesn't strap you to keep researching the stock. Once you have time you start trading again.

So to close it up, for today, theres my net profit. (First field includes commision fees).

Another Earner Today

Another Earner for today.

Kept on to GNW as previously bought last day and today had a nice gain.

Yesterday I bought in a day order to sell it at 35.50 but that wasn't reached. Then today was busy with university assignments so I couldn't watch the market at all.

It's high was 36.29, but its back at 35.55 (still above what I wanted ohh well)

I've been only shooting profits with this Cybertrader, really makes things easier. Now waiting until the main cashload gets transferred so I can start making some real dough.

Making money in stock market is pretty easy

With software like Quest Trade, its very possible to make money in the stock market for the small guy. With TD Waterhouse I had the high fees and no trading software and it was no fun.

Here's a screen shot, (last day bought BMY after some rumors), and today it went up.

Just holding that over night.

And a couple days before that.

Made about $73 on Amazon

Currently only have one account I'm trading with, still waiting for my other portion to be transferred. Note I'm using only about $2000 at the moment but once my other account is transferred I'll be back up to all that's left of the $10,000 I had to start with ;-)

Tomorrow lots of earnings are coming out, going to pick a stock I'll have faith in and let it run!

I'm interested again so I'll be revamping this site, putting it to a relevant domain, and more.

Quest Trade Account Finally Active!

Trading has sort of discouraged me because of the high rates I have with TD Waterhouse. Since I'm in Canada, not all brokerage services are accessible. Price per trades were 29.99. That means in order for me to make a profit, I had to have my stock go up and cover 60 (buy and sell) plus more. The profit margins aren't so high. On top of that TD Waterhouse charges other account fee's over the year.

I want to be able to day trade, do a couple trades a day. In order to do this the fee's would have to be low. I want to have some trading software that allows me to execute trades from a single desktop application. Every professional uses some type of software, I better start using one and learn all the ins and outs.

My brother the owner of Stock Market Blog (turning 20k to 1 mill), uses Cybertrader and thats where he gets all those neat looking trade activity screenshots. But he suggested I use Questtrade.

Questtrade offers trades for only $4.95. It also has CyberTrader Pro platform, a desktop application. A quote about what the company has to say:

No retail trading software comes close to offering a similar range of functions, data streams and order controls. I went and signed up with it's easy process. Completed all the docuements and am waiting for my account to be moved from TD Waterhouse so I can start to truly be a trader.

Things are Getting Interesting Again

Remember, you never loose money in the stock market unless you sell. Of course there's all those commission fees, account inactivity fees, and if your with TD Waterhouse like me, you have to pay $100 a year just for having an account. All that aside I kept with my stocks in hopes of them coming back up.

After the bad slump in the summer, they're on they're way back.

Stock Market WHATS GOING ON?

Not interested in stock market, really dissapointed to say the least. It's beeen going downnn dowwnnn downnn.. But I got one insight to say.

Todays June 12th.

Stocks are plenti-down... But I can guarentee there will be a recession and stocks will sky-rocket up. This is the time you can buy low, and sell high in a short time. Take any stock out there that's dropped a lot.

Use ones I've mentioned on the site before, for instance.

Broadcom - 29.59
Nortel - 2.14
Angiotech Pharmaceuticals - 12.69
Amazon - 33.60
Tivo - 6.24

Any of these stocks will make you money. Not that I like to speculate, but expect rises up to 30-40%.

Thats just my 2 cents. Invest now guys!

Banff Holiday Trip

Haven't posted for a little while now. For Easter, I went on a family vacation to Banff, Alberta Canada. I've been inspired by John Chow's blog, to also include some posts with pictures of highlights of my life. These are pictures of a stock enthusiasts life. So here they are, enjoy!

We stayed at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. It's an actual castle. Fairmont is a leader in luxury hotels.

Don't believe me that its a castle? Check out some of the people that greet you around corners.

Indoors was a nice flower display, I just have to show you guys!

This is my doggy Cody. He's not a puppy, but a 5 year old cross between a Bijon and a Pomeranian. Great little dog, loves to stay at castles.

One of my day's stay at Banff, I went to the Lake Louise Ski hill. Here is me leaving to go there.

In middle of April you can still go skiing over here. And the conditions were better than they had all season(probably because it was freezing cold rest of the season). This is not even close to end of ski season here, there was nice powder and non of that slush that you'd find in Vancouver B.C.

This is the wildlife you're likely to see all throughout Alberta. It's actually getting a little annoying because the wildlife is overpopulating and it's hard for people enjoy any of the city's parks.

Of course for Easter Sunday we didn't miss church. Here is me and my mother. The church was full to the brim because of vacationers there for Easter.

Here's a beautiful picture of the trans Canada highway. Those bridges are animal crossings. Again because of the wildlife overpopulation. Without them they'd just sit all over the highway and never let any vehicles pass by. ;-)

How to Invest in the Stock Market

I have decided to make a blog post to help people on; how to invest in the stock market from all the experience I've gained. Posts dedicated to Josh for his birthday. Enjoy!

First of all, you must be interested in stocks and be able to devote a lot of time into research and learning. For me its really appealing, other than web publishing it can become a job which you can stay at home and sit in front of your computer all day while watching MSNBC. Another reason stocks are great to get into, is they're an awesome way to make money by investing. It's a fun game, and what's better than a feeling of winning? All those seasoned stock traders do leave an impression of successful rich people. Stocks got lots to do with mathematics, and physiologic calculus. What a great mix, my two favorite things come together!

People might tell you to play with "fake money" to see how well you do when you start investing in the stock market. Usually you won't keep interested in this since its not real money. If it was your real hard earned money you invested, each good stock investment will give you some nice cash to enjoy the stock market, while the losses will sting and make you get more motivated to research, study, and beat the market.

To be able to invest, you'll need a stock broker. The best way to invest is online and by yourself. Personally I use TD Waterhouse. Their trade fees are a little high ($29.00) but they haven't bothered me that much yet. Most brokers will charge about $15 a trade, and charge a monthly or annual fee. $10,000 is a good amount to start investing with. Anything under that, the fees can really pile up and you'll be investing just to break even and make your broker money. So make sure to know all the hidden fees and costs before picking your broker. Some brokers I would recommend are Fidelity, TD Waterhouse, Scott Trade, Sharebuilder, and E-trade. Once signed up, its very easy to make orders and manage your portfolio.

Your next move is to buy some shares of stock. What you'll need to do, is research stocks. To do this, all the info you'd ever need is out on the web. Sites to use are Yahoo Finance, MSN Money, and Google Finance. News, quotes, charts, everything there. The jist of it is, good news makes a stock go up, and if a stocks expecting goods news, it will keep going up until the news hits and vise versa for a stock going down. Research books and learn from experience why stocks go up and down.

As a new investor, there is a certainty that your going to loose money. Don't let this scare you away from the stock market, just learn from your mistakes and gain experience to make it successful in the long run. Experience is what lets you understand the stock market.

Once you get into investing in the stock market, there are lots of smart people out there saying this and that. Be open to listening what they have to say. You shouldn't trust everyone as some of them are just market movers trying to make money off inexperienced investors like you. Bashers will try to blow a stock down so they can buy low, while pumpers will try to raise a stock so they can sell high.

You need to find a stock strategy slash niche your good at, and exploit it for all its worth and more. Maybe your niche is penny stocks, channel trading, reading graphs, technology stocks or even day trading. You cannot copy the same stock strategy of another investor. One of which strategies has hurt me and other newbies was listening to Jim Cramer and relying on his stock picks. Once he mentioned a stock, it usually went up a couple percent and it was already too high to buy. The wise thing to do, is look into the stocks he recommends and monitor them until its the best time to buy.

As a new investor, I would suggest to stay away from penny stocks. These are very votile and a risky venture.

Being an investor you need to maximize your gains, and minimize your losses. Now that means two things. You can't be too greedy or you'll end up selling the stock after its reached its high. The second thing is you can't have fear, and sell a stock short after you've just bought it and it has fell a little. These two are big reasons why investors loose money in the stock market. Personally after I buy a stock, my strategy is to put in an order which will sell right after it hits a price target that will have gained me a certain amount of money (always include the price of trades in this) and keeps me from being too greedy.

The stock market might seem hard at first, but once you look back at how the market moved you'll say to yourself "how obvious was that". Never give up, and if you do just come back to this blog here and follow all my picks ;-) NO THAT'S COPYING STRATEGY!

Jim Cramer Helps Broadcom

Broadcom has been going down lately. Lots of lawsuits against them for patent-infringement against Qualcomm. Stock went down to as low as $40.83, but later during a Mad Money Lightening round, a person asked about Broadcom Stock.

Jim said the stocks done going down, and bets it will see $50 and PLUSS.

"I'LL BET YOU RIGHT NOW THAT BRCM SEES $50 AND IT GOES HIGHER AND, DON'T FORGET, THAT I THINK THAT Marvell Tech Group (MRVL) GOES HIGHER AND Apple Computer (AAPL) BE DONE GOING DOWN. STICK WITH ALL THREE!" is what he had to say.

Stock jumped up to a finish $43.96 after hours. Thanks again Jim ;-)

Google Finance

I recently came across Google Finance. (http://finance.google.com/finance)

- The quotes are real time in some cases, or with almost no delay.
- The intra-day charts are easy to use, and are pretty neat.
- You can start discussions about a stock on the site.

Most of the things you'd want to know about a stock for research are there including up to the minute news on the stock. At the bottom of the quotes, it shows even more resources so you can dig deep into the stock.

Another great feature with Google Finance is typing in the industry your interested in (cars, paper, semi-conductors) and it will show companies in that sector with quotes to see how well its performing.

Google has done it again, with simplicity. Nothings to cluttered, no ads (well for now anyways), and a joy to use.

Broadcom is my latest Acquisition

Finally had the limit order go through. When doing it, I had to monitor the stock and look for the lowest price I could. I acquired 75 shares for $45.40.

When reading about channel trading, I think its the easiest way to make money. Buy low and sell high. And do this again and again for a stock. Monitor it, and find out its channel of trading with highs and lows. Stocks have a trend they follow (not all the time), and you can see these trends within a channel.

In this case I've drawn some lines to give me an approximation what it's channel is like and gives me price point to look to sell at.

Broadcom looks like a great strengthening stock over the year. Don't buy stocks while their weakening. In my case I wanted to buy it right after it had some light on it and started rising (but as my recent blog post, the limit order didn't go through). The stock went down a little the next day and it was time to do some buying. The stock is hopefully going to rally, and volume will increase.

I also put a limit sell order on this stock once it hits my price target of $48.90, so I make a nice profit and aren't too greedy.

I'm done with limit orders.

Jim Cramer and others tell you to use limit orders to save you money, it has only lost me money.

Yesterday night I researched some stocks, and I wanted a semi-conductor or telecommunication play. I came across Broadcom (BRCM). Broadcom manufactures semi-conductors, for wired and wireless communications. Broadcom offers solutions for digital cable, IP set top boxes for your t.v., media servers, high definition receivers, high definition recorders and personal video recorders (PVR), storage networking, cell phone communications, VoIP, DSL internet and more. Broadcom does it all, and I wanted to purchase some.

Look at this chart, this was taken a little bit after I wanted to buy it, price was at the 3/14/2006.

Looks like it will raise right back up to $49 and cash in for a nice profit.

Well anyways I put in a limit order at $45.20 for 75 shares, which was 2 cents below the asking price. I wake up this morning, and see my order isn't filled and the stocks risen over 80 cents.

Lesson here is never do any more limit orders, as usually they'll only go through if the stocks falling that day. Oh and also, Broadcoms a good place to put your money! I'm going to wait a little until it falls so I can buy some more.
